There is a New Star in Boston and His Name is Isaiah Thomas.
The Boston Celtics have seen and had many superstars throughout their historic franchise. From Bill Russell to Larry Bird and Paul Pierce, Boston has had many great players grace a Celtics jersey. Now there is a new sheriff in town who is taking the city and league by storm.
Isaiah Thomas is the latest Celtics superstar to emerge. He is also not your average superstar in stature standing at just 5’9”. This makes what Thomas is doing that much greater.After being traded mid-season from Phoenix to Boston in 2014-2015, Thomas is proving why last year’s all-star season was not just a bit of Celtics luck. This year Thomas came to show why he is deserving to be considered one of the elite players in the NBA.
Currently, Thomas is putting up massive numbers. He is averaging 29.9 points per game, 6.4 assists per game, and is shooting 39 percent from behind the arc. He has the Celtics record for most consecutive games with 40 or more points at 3 games Let’s not forget when he exploded for 52 points against the Miami Heat back in December. To add to Thomas’s great performances is that the Celtics are winning.
In the post big 3 and Rajon Rondo era, the Celtics were in need of something or someone who can fill that void for them. No one knew that Thomas would be that guy to bring them back up the ranks of the eastern conference. Thomas is handling being the guy and the face of the franchise with class. Paul Pierce reached out to Thomas to talk about what it means to be the guy for the Celtics.
“I told him I’m proud of what he’s been able to do for this organization…he’s taken the torch, man. The city is proud of him for what he’s doing. You know, I keep up. I’ve been watching him. And especially where he’s come from, I mean, he’s been on like three or four different teams and now he’s finally established himself as an NBA MVP candidate, All-Star. Just the route that he took: He wasn’t projected to really do much in the NBA as a small guy, and so he’s taken a different route than a lot of us, and he definitely could carry the torch in his time here.” said Pierce on Sunday after his last appearance as a player in Boston.
Thomas is ready as the Celtics are sitting high in the Eastern Conference. If their pace continues they should have an opportunity to contend with Cleveland for the Eastern Conference title.
