Mountaineers Move On; Face Irish on Saturday

The Bison’s dance is over after an 86-80 loss to the Mountaineers in the Round of 64. The Bison were led by Sophomore guard Kimbal Mackenzie (23 pts) and junior Nana Foulland (18 pts, 7 rebounds). Mackenzie was five for seven from downtown. The Mountaineers were led by senior Tarik Phillip (16 pts) and Nathan Adrian who posted a double-double (10 rebs, 12 pts). After their continuous struggles in the Big 12 tournament, they did not look ready for the NCAA tournament. With a strong performance behind the arch(45.5%) the Mountaineers looked good heading into the half. After a couple scares in the second half the Mountaineers came out victorious.

West Virginia to face Notre Dame

On Saturday, the Mountaineers will tip off against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in Buffalo. The Irish were almost upset by #12 seed Princeton on Thursday in a 60-58 win. Bonzie Colson led the team with 18 points. The old Big East rivals will have another match-up, this time with greater implications, a sweet sixteen opportunity. West Virginia is 12-27 all-time against the Fighting Irish.
