There is hope for the gutted-out Washington Redskins as they sign former Cleveland Browns wide receiver, Terrelle Pryor. The deal is for one-year, $8 million.
Washington became the first team in NFL history to lose two 1,000-yard wide receivers: Pierre Garcon and DeSean Jackson. Adding a 1,000-plus yard receiver may give Kirk Cousins possible reason to stay in D.C. despite wanting to leave.
Pryor will be joining Jamison Crowder and a host of rookies in the wide receiver position. Safe to say it will be both Pryor and Jamison as the top receivers at this point.
Being on one of the worse teams, finishing 1-15, Pryor managed to be successful this past season with 1,007 yards and four touchdowns off 77 receptions. Remarkable stats compared to the fact the Browns have had some hardships at the quarterback position.
Wanting to stay in Cleveland was an option for Pryor since Hue Jackson is the head coach. He had built a relationship with him back in his Oakland Raider days. Browns had the option of franchise tagging Pryor, but chose to work out a deal instead if possible.
Pryor mentioned how being on a losing team wasn’t the end for him. He wanted to keep progressing with Cleveland in the future.
“I have no problem with, just because we were 1-15 or whatever this year, coming back,” Pryor said. “I don’t mind starting fresh next year and continuing to grow, because I think it’s more exciting when you’re on the bottom. I’m always citing starting from the bottom and getting to the top, and I think it’s a greater feeling and it would be great to give Cleveland what they’re looking for.”
With the Browns signing Kenny Britt to a multi-year free agent deal, you would think keeping Pryor as well could assist them for next season. Obviously, the Redskins are happy to have Pryor’s services.
