Jayden Daniels and the Commanders offense is starting to warm up at Training Camp at Ashburn, Virginia. As well all knew the defense usually starts ahead of the offense. Now the offense is getting more comfortable and energetic. The first week Daronte Jones and his defense confused and attacked the offense. Now David Blough has started to unleash the potential of the offense. The defense still made plays but the offense is starting to attack different levels. Here is what I saw today.
- Jayden’s Got Some Pop-Â One observation I have see is the zip and power Jayden has had on his throws so far. That has actually been some of the reason for the receivers dropping passes, the ball gets on them so fast. We saw that to day on two extremely tight window throws that Daniels was able to get to Luke McCaffery. Daniels is healthy and growing in confidence in the offense.
- Running Back as Receivers-Â I was saying that Washington needed someone to step and catch the ball outside of Terry McLaurin and the running backs are making their case by stepping up. Jeremy McNichols his known for his pass catching ability, Rachaad White was known for that in Tampa, Jacory Crosky-Merritt has shown good ability so far in camp. A big part of the Blough offense is running backs in the passing game.
- Cool Hand Luke-Â Luke McCaffery had himself a day today. While the wide receiving group has had a ton of moving parts, one person who has been with Jayden Daniels the most is McCaffery. Luke had some tough catches over the middle of the field, while running good routes. Opportunity is there and he is taking that by the horns.
- Luvu Has the Voice- I asked Javon Kinlaw who is the voice of the defense and he replied Frankie Luvu. Luvu calls the plays on defense with the green dot and has seemed to take that role over. What is going to be the tell is the audible information that is conveyed pre-snap. Bobby Wagner was the the epitome of this previously, now lets see how Luvu can do when the games start.
- Cornerbacks Room Getting Tight-Â The cornerback room has changed a bit during the first week. The addition of Rasul Douglas inserted another starter level player. With Trey Amos’ return imminent, there is a log jam forming at the position. Amik Robertson seems to have the left CB position locked down, that leaves Mikey Saniristil and Rasul fighting for the last starting spot. This will be the battle to watch.
- Veteran Days Off-Â When asked about vet rest days, Coach Quinn said there won’t be as many as their used to be. Of course after saying this Sam Cosmi and Laremy Tunsil had days off. Da’Ron Payne also rested after drills. With a padded practice tomorrow before a rest day, this makes sense.
The pads are back on tomorrow and it is a rest day on Thursday, expect more one on one competition.
