The Ravens had this one in hand in Cleveland on Sunday. Then the fourth quarter happened. Andre Szmyt hit a 37-yard field goal as time expired, and the Browns beat the Ravens 13-10 at Huntington Bank Field, snapping Baltimore’s three-game winning streak.
Baltimore drops to 4-2 and now sits in a crowded AFC North with Pittsburgh and Cleveland.
How the Lead Slipped Away
Baltimore scored all 10 of its points in the first quarter and led 10-3 heading into the fourth. Tyler Loop had a chance to push the lead to two scores, but his 49-yard field goal try missed early in the period.
Then Derrick Henry put the ball on the ground. Cleveland turned the fumble into a 35-yard touchdown drive, with Audric Estime punching it in to tie the game at 10.
The Browns got the ball back with 42 seconds left. Deshaun Watson hit Jerry Jeudy for 18 yards, and Jeudy turned a short throw into a 33-yard catch-and-run to put Szmyt in range for the winner.
Huntley Holds His Own Again
With Lamar Jackson out for a second straight week with an ankle injury, Tyler Huntley made the start and was steady if not spectacular. He finished 19 of 31 for 165 yards with a touchdown and no interceptions, and added 28 yards on five carries. His TD went to Josh Cuevas, who caught four passes for 44 yards. Zay Flowers led the team with six catches for 66 yards.
Henry ran 17 times for 58 yards, but the fumble is what people will remember.
Defense Did Its Job
The Ravens defense held Watson to 122 passing yards on 13 of 22 throws for most of the afternoon. Kyle Hamilton was all over the field with six tackles and three tackles for loss, Jaylinn Hawkins led the team with seven stops, and Calais Campbell and Trey Hendrickson each had a sack.
What’s Next
Baltimore comes home to M&T Bank Stadium next Sunday to face Cincinnati. Jackson’s status for that game is still up in the air. He was hurt in the Week 4 win over Tennessee and hasn’t practiced since. Head coach Jesse Minter has only said, “When he’s ready to play, he’ll be ready to play.”
