The Commanders rally past the Eagles on Sunday night started slowly and ended in a rout. Washington spotted Philadelphia an early 10-point lead, then shut the Eagles out the rest of the way for a 27-10 win in Landover on NBC’s Sunday Night Football.
The win moves Washington to 2-4-1 and drops Philadelphia to 2-6, its sixth consecutive loss. With the result, the Commanders climb past the Eagles in the NFC East standings. The Giants lead the division at 4-2-1 after a bye week, and Dallas sits at 3-5 after an overtime loss to Arizona.
Slow start, strong finish
Philadelphia, starting Tanner McKee at quarterback with Jalen Hurts sidelined, struck first. Jake Elliott hit a 40-yard field goal, and Saquon Barkley punched in a 3-yard touchdown run midway through the first quarter to make it 10-0.
Washington answered with a 56-yard field goal from Drew Stevens before the end of the first quarter. In the second, Jayden Daniels found Stefon Diggs for an 8-yard touchdown to tie the game, and Stevens added a 39-yarder late in the half to give the Commanders a 13-10 lead at the break.
The Eagles never scored again. Stevens connected from 25 yards in the third quarter and from 42 in the fourth as Washington outscored Philadelphia 11-0 in the final period. Elliott missed a 41-yard try off the left upright in the fourth.
Daniels steady, defense dominant
Daniels finished 16 of 29 for 217 yards with a touchdown and no interceptions, and added 23 yards on two scrambles. Treylon Burks led Washington receivers with three catches for 81 yards, and Diggs caught three passes for 38 yards and the score.
The Commanders defense did the heavy lifting. Washington sacked McKee four times and was credited with nine quarterback hits. Barkley was held to 30 yards on 13 carries, though he added a 24-yard reception.
Washington played without wide receiver Terry McLaurin, who is out for the season with a knee injury, and running back Jacory Croskey-Merritt. Defensive tackles Daron Payne and Javon Kinlaw were also inactive.
