The field is set. AEW Dynamite results from Wednesday night in Cleveland filled out all eight spots in Saturday’s Clockwork Carnage match for the AEW World Championship, and the night ended exactly how you would expect with that many contenders in one building: a full blown brawl that security had to break up.
Wednesday’s show was a combined three hour edition of Dynamite and Collision, the final stop before AEW WrestleDream on Saturday, October 17.
Clockwork Carnage field is complete
Five qualifiers went down on the night. Adam Copeland speared Josh Alexander, Konosuke Takeshita made Brian Cage tap to a Dragon Sleeper, Kazuchika Okada beat Myron Reed with a Rainmaker in a match that also had his International Championship on the line, Ricochet put away Ace Austin with a Spirit Gun and Vertigo, and Darby Allin retained the TNT Championship over Hechicero with two Coffin Drops.
They join champion Will Ospreay, Samoa Joe and Speedball Mike Bailey. Under the Clockwork Carnage rules, wrestlers enter one at a time, and anyone pinned or submitted during that entry stage is out. Once all eight are in, a 15 minute clock starts, and whoever has the most falls when time expires walks out as AEW World Champion.
Copeland drops a bombshell, then gets jumped
The biggest moment of the night came after Copeland’s win, when he told the crowd that 2027 will be his final year in professional wrestling and that he wants the AEW World Championship before he goes. Don Callis and Brian Cage came out to confront him, Kevin Knight, Lance Archer and Kyle Fletcher attacked from behind, and Cage flattened Copeland with an F5. Takeshita, Orange Cassidy, Kyle O’Reilly and Roderick Strong made the save.
