Anthony Davis Scores 29 as Wizards Beat Magic 103 to 94 in Orlando

The Wizards went into Orlando without their starting center and came out with their fourth win of the season.

Anthony Davis scored 29 points on 12-of-17 shooting, grabbed eight rebounds, and picked up three steals as the Wizards beat the Magic 103 to 94 Monday night at Kia Center. Kyshawn George added 22 points, rookie AJ Dybantsa scored 21 in just his third NBA game, and Trae Young finished with 15 points and nine assists.

Washington (4 and 3) played without Alex Sarr, who sat with a knee injury after starting the first six games at center. The Wizards shot 53 percent from the floor and did enough on the defensive end to slow an Orlando team that made four of its first five three-pointers and then went cold, finishing 11 of 39 from deep.

The game turned in the second quarter. Orlando built a nine-point lead early in the period before Young took over, scoring 10 points during a 13 to 2 Washington run. The Wizards led 60 to 59 at the half.

The third quarter belonged to Washington. The Wizards held the Magic to nine points in the period, and Young’s layup capped an 8-0 run that pushed the lead to 79 to 68, the biggest margin of the night, heading into the fourth.

Franz Wagner led Orlando with 24 points, and Desmond Bane scored 20. The Magic (2 and 5) have now lost four straight on their home floor and were short-handed again, with Paolo Banchero (ankle) missing his fifth straight game and Jalen Suggs (knee) out for a fourth straight. Anthony Black was held out as a precaution on the second night of a back-to-back.

For Dybantsa, it was another step forward after he scored 19 in his NBA debut against Cleveland last week. Monday’s 21 point night came with the team needing extra scoring with Sarr out.

The Wizards will play at Capital One Arena on Wednesday night to host the Atlanta Hawks.
