The Hokies are on a roll after their 39-36 road victory against the Panthers. Jerod Evans battled through an ankle injury and finished the game with a career-high of 406 yards with two touchdowns. For the first time in Virginia Tech history, three Hokie receivers topped 100 yards in the same game. Kicker Joey Slye tied the ACC and school record with six field goals in a single game. Duke remains win-less in the ACC after suffering a loss against Georgia Tech last weekend.
Virginia Tech is averaging 36 points per game, while Duke is putting up 24.5. The Blue Devils defense is strong but it is no amount to the Hokies giving up only 321.5 yards per game while Duke is allowing 393.1. In last year’s game against Duke, Bucky Hodges caught three touchdown passes from Michael Brewer. The tight end also caught six passes for 145 passing yards over Pitt. Duke’s defense is strong but it is no amount to Virginia Tech defense.
Starting defensive tackle, Nigel Williams, is clear from his ankle injury and will return to the lineup. He has recorded 10 tackles, two tackles for loss and a half sack in six games. It was announced that senior safety, Chuck Clark, will be representing No. 25 in honor of Frank Beamer.
A little history:
The last match-up between Duke and Virginia Tech ended in quadruple overtime with the Blue Devils snagging the victory 45-43. Virginia Tech is 1-2 in the last three match-ups with the Blue Devils. In Lane Stadium, the Hokies lost both games against the Blue Devils. However, they managed to pull a victory in Durham against Duke who at the time was ranked No. 19.
The No. 23 Hokies are looking to win the Coastal division, as they are currently tied with the Tar Heels. Virginia Tech enters this game on a two-game winning streak, while Duke is coming off a two-game losing streak. This contest will kick-off Saturday afternoon at 3:30pm at Wallace Wade Stadium.
