On “Beyond the Headlines with Renee Washington,” the show celebrated its one-year anniversary of the podcast. To celebrate this momentous milestone, on this episode, one of the special guests she welcomed was Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson who is a senior writer for Heavy.
As the official NBA restart is approaching they talked about all the things that are happening in the NBA bubble. On the restart, Robinson said “It is all very new. It is like a big AAU tournament without any fans. Hopefully, we can watch some games soon?”
Now we also stated the bubble is a great bonding experience for the players and the coaches. Scoop B also gave his opinion on the new small ball Houston Rockets he stated “that he had some questions at the trade deadline when they got rid of Capella but they have changed the game they can run you out of a building.”
As the show moved on, the NBA topics heated up when they started talking about the Los Angeles Lakers. Scoop B Stated that the “The Lakers are a high seeded underdog with a hungry Lebron James the sky’s the limit plus he mentioned that Rondo is an important piece because of his insight and certain schemes that he offers in the game which makes their coach great.”
The big question everyone has about the Lakers is will all the injuries impact their playoff and possible championship run? We all know they are hungry and trying to do it for KOBE but is that enough?
Scoop B also gave his insight on his upset teams that are playing in the bubble which are the Portland Trail Blazers and the Philadelphia 76ers.
Scoop B said, “Portland has dealt with injuries all year so they know how to win with different matchups but they will be healthy in the bubble. I see them matching up well against the Lakers. They just need to put better bench combinations out on the floor.” The start of Ben Simmons on the four would be a huge change for this basketball team; he will become more of a scorer making this team dangerous”. What we want to know is who’s coming out of the bubble on top and making it to the finals? Scoop B’s pick is the Lakers vs Bucks, but safety is first as we continue to fight Covid-19.
Scoop B’s work can be viewed on Spotify, IHeartRadio, or on twitter @ScoopB or you can watch his podcast at ScoopB.com.
Beyond the headlines : in my opinion this is a great platform for guests to talk about sports and society with musical performances. It is great to see so many African Americans succeed and watch their dreams spark in front of their eyes to keep up the good work Renee Washington did for many years to come!
