The Charlotte Hornets have selected LaMelo Ball with the No. 3 overall pick of the 2020 NBA Draft. Ball, 19 makes his debut after a professional stint with the Lithuanian Basketball League. In 2018 Ball played for the Los Angeles Ballers in the Junior Basketball Association, his father LaVar’s alternative to college basketball. More recently, Ball played in the Australian-based National Basketball League in 2019.
Ball’s deep range and flashy passing will make him a welcome addition to a Charlotte team that needs a playmaker to join Devonte’ Graham, Miles Bridges, and PJ Washington. Ball’s jumpier, court vision, and ball handling under pressure helps to keep defenses honest and create shots for his teammates. The star power Ball will bring to the Charlotte market can work wonders in terms of bringing back excitement to a franchise that has been forgettable in recent years.
