SmackDown was unbelievable and it lived up to the hype compared to a very disappointing RAW I will provide the three best highlights of the show and the results:
1) Main event
The main event was a triple threat match for the WWE Championship the winner would face John Cena at the Royal Rumble. AJ Styles looked to defend his WWE Championship against Dolph Ziggler, and Baron Corbin. This main event was amazing all three wrestlers showcased their very best. However, Styles proved why he is the face that runs the place on SmackDown. The Lone Wolf hit the End of Days on Ziggler then AJ Styles hit the Phenomenal Forearm on Corbin AJ Styles pinned Dolph Ziggler. After the match, John Cena came down to the ring and he went face to face with The Phenomenal One AJ Styles. They embraced each other with a surprising handshake and the match is official at the Royal Rumble.
2) New Tag Team Champions
This was the opening contest of the night it was four corners elimination match for the SmackDown Tag Team Championship. It featured the following tag teams such as Heath Slater and Rhyno, The Usos, American Alpha and finally the SmackDown Tag Team Champions Randy Orton and Luke Harper. The first elimination occurred when Jimmy Uso hit Heath Slater with a Superkick and he pinned Slater and as a result, Heath Slater and Rhyno were eliminated. Next team to be eliminated was the Usos when Chad Gable caught Jey Uso with a surprise roll-up. Only two teams were left American Alpha and The Wyatt Family this set up an intriguing showdown. The Uso came back to the ring and they assaulted Jason Jordan and Chad Gable after they were eliminated.
The finishing sequence of this match was very entertaining but the turning point of the match. When Orton and Harper hit each other with an accidental collision. American Alpha capitalized and they connected with the Grand Amplitude on Orton and they became the new SmackDown Tag Team Champions. I was very shocked because I thought the Wyatt’s would have the titles for a couple of months.
3) John Cena returns
The 15-time World Champion John Cena kicked off SmackDown. Cena stated that he is tired of this new era and that he is not going. Cena would get the winner of the WWE Championship of the triple threat match at the Royal Rumble. It involved AJ Styles, Dolph Ziggler, and Baron Corbin for the WWE Championship.
SmackDown results
Alexa Bliss successfully retained her SmackDown Women’s Championship over Becky Lynch. Bliss got an assist from La Luchadora after she smashed Becky Lynch’s head in an exposed turnbuckle followed by a DDT.
Dean Ambrose delivered a sneak attack on The Miz backstage as part of his security.
