The Baltimore Ravens still don’t know if their quarterback will be under center in Cleveland on Sunday.
Lamar Jackson did not practice Wednesday as he continues to work back from a sprained left ankle. Head coach Jesse Minter said afterward that the two time MVP is “definitely day-to-day” and praised the work he’s putting in, saying Jackson is “working his butt off.”
Where Things Stand
Jackson was hurt on the final play of the first half of Baltimore’s 24-18 win over Tennessee on October 4, when he was sacked and Jermaine Johnson landed on the back of his leg. Before leaving, he had completed 15 of 20 passes for 222 yards and two touchdowns.
He sat out every practice last week and missed the Week 5 game against Atlanta. On Monday, Minter said Jackson was “definitely doing better,” but wanted to see him on the practice field before making a call.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Wednesday, citing a league source, that Jackson has a “realistic chance” to play against the Browns. For now, though, his status hasn’t changed. He has two more practices to show he’s ready before the Ravens issue game designations.
Huntley Ready Again
If Jackson can’t go, Tyler Huntley is expected to make his second straight start. Huntley led the Ravens to a 30-23 overtime win over the Falcons last Sunday, throwing for 201 yards and two touchdowns. Rookie Joe Fagnano is the third quarterback on the depth chart.
Cleveland isn’t taking anything for granted. Browns head coach Todd Monken said his team is preparing for the Ravens no matter who starts, calling Huntley “a really good football player” who has won plenty of games as a starter.
Some Good News on the Injury Report
The Ravens did get some help back on Wednesday. Outside linebacker Trey Hendrickson (finger) and wide receiver Ja’Kobi Lane (wrist) were both full participants, with Lane returning from injured reserve. Wide receiver Rashod Bateman (shoulder) was limited, but Minter said he is “good to go.”
Center Cam Jurgens remains in the concussion protocol and watched practice in a non contact jersey. Rookie tight end Matt Hibner (hand) did not practice, and veteran Calais Campbell got a rest day.
What’s at Stake
Baltimore is 4-1 and sits atop the AFC North heading into Sunday’s division game at Huntington Bank Field. Since Jackson became the full time starter in 2019, the Ravens are 7-11 in games he has missed, though Huntley’s win last week showed this team can survive without him for a short stretch.
