On Sunday, Baltimore Ravens’ Safety Matt Elam was arrested on three drug-related charges. Initially Elam was pulled over for reckless driving, but law enforcement found illegal substances in his vehicle.
Elam was booked at 3:45 a.m. on charges of possession of more than 20 grams of marijuana, possession with intent to sell or deliver, and possession of a controlled substance. He is currently being held on a $15,500 bond at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami.
In a three year stint with the Ravens, Elam did not live up to his potential. In a total of three years, Elam recorded 131 tackles with 1 interception and 1 sack.
On March 9th, he will be an unrestricted free agent and the Ravens have made a decision with moving forward without him. “We are aware of the arrest of Matt Elam. Matt is not in our plans for the 2017 Ravens.”
Last season, a knee injury in the preseason landed him on IR for a second straight year, but the Ravens was loyal to him with keeping him on the roaster, dispite his off-field problems. The office had enough with Elam and will like to see if they could find someone that could stay healthy, make an impact in the game, and does not have any problems on and off the field.
The Ravens ranked 7th in the league last season, despite the injuries that they had in their secondary.
