The Carolina Panthers had a few extra days to mull over roster decisions as Tuesday’s deadline approaches. The Panthers played their final preseason game on Thursday and had a head start over the clubs that played through the weekend. In addition to a kicking competition between Matthew Wright and rookie Ryan Fitzgerald, eyes will be on the wide receiver room. General manager Dan Morgan said that it is possible the team keeps seven receivers. Outside of first round picks Tetairoa McMillan and Xavier Legette, and veteran Adam Thielen, there’s a logjam as to who those remaining receivers will be. However, former undrafted free agent Jalen Coker should be just as much a lock as those previously mentioned. What the club will do with veterans David Moore, Hunter Renfrow, and this year’s sixth round draft pick and fan favorite Jimmy Horn, Jr remains to be seen. If head coach Dave Canales’ words regarding Brycen Tremayne following Thursday’s game hold any weight, he could factor into those decisions as well.
On the defensive side of the ball, the secondary could certainly use some depth, but initial roster moves could be interesting. Check back here for updates as the Panthers cut down to 53 players before Tuesday’s 4pm ET deadline.
