Panthers Make Moves to Get to 53 at Deadline

The Carolina Panthers took it down to the wire as Tuesday’s 4pm deadline approached for all NFL teams to submit their 53-man roster. We steer clear of the word “final” when it comes to the current roster as more moves can, and most likely will, occur as waiver wire transactions begin to take place on Wednesdays.

After cutting 11 players on Saturday, the Panthers made their first wave of transactions with 24 players early Tuesday morning. The team acquired wide receiver Ihmir Smith-Marsette from the Kansas City Chiefs late Monday night in a swap of conditional 2025 seventh-round picks. Tuesday morning, Carolina waived or terminated the contracts of the following 22 players: running back Spencer Brown; wide receivers Shi Smith, Javon Wims, and Josh Vann; offensive linemen Justin McCray, Michael Jordan, Deonte Brown, Sam Tecklenburg, and JD Direnzo; defensive lineman Raequan Williams; outside linebackers Kobe Jones, Eku Leota, and Jordan Thomas; inside linebackers Deion Jones, Brandon Smith, and Ace Eley; safety Eric Rowe; and cornerbacks Keith Taylor, Stantley Thomas-Oliver, Herb Miller, Mac McCain, and Mark Milton.

Additionally, defensive end Henry Anderson was placed on injured reserve and right guard Austin Corbett was placed on the reserve/physically unable to perform list. Corbett will miss at least the first four games as he continues to rehab from ACL surgery.

Following Tuesday’s afternoon practice, the team made the final three moves needed to get to 53. The contracts of veteran offensive tackle Cam Erving, cornerback Greg Mabin, and defensive tackle Taylor Stallworth were all terminated. The 53-man roster as it stands can be found here.

A practice squad can be established tomorrow.
