The Carolina Panthers on Saturday announced that they are placing running back Miles Sanders on injured reserve. Sanders, who was injured during the Panthers’ Week 10 win over the New York Giants in Munich, will miss at the least the next four weeks. He had already been ruled out for Sunday’s game and did not practice this week. As Sanders becomes unavailable, rookie running back Jonathon Brooks is set to make his NFL debut against the Kansas City Chiefs.
In his second season with Carolina, the 27-year old had 38 carries for 139 yards with his lone touchdown of the season coming in the Week 3 win over the Las Vegas Raiders.
To fill Sanders’ roster spot, wide receiver Deven Thompkins was signed to the active roster from the practice squad. Thompkins had been elevated for the two previous games to provide depth in the absence of Adam Thielen, who makes his return to the field on Sunday. Additionally, wide receiver Dan Chisena and outside linebacker Kenny Dyson were elevated from the practice squad. It’s the first of three allowed elevations for both players.
Outside linebacker Amare Barno has been downgraded from doubtful to out for Sunday’s game as he continues to work back from the ACL injury he suffered on Christmas Eve last year.
