Retirement Doesn’t Stop Tony Stewart From Heating Up

Summer time is upon us and lke every year, there are mixed reviews. Some people love the warmer weather while others hate it because temperatures skyrocket to triple digits. Tony Stewart is a fan of the summer time, but it might not be because of the heat.

Since getting behind the wheel in competitive racing, a phrase that has always been attached to Stewart is “He heats up in the Summer time”. This isn’t meant towards his temperament though, it’s meant towards his success in winning when the heat rises. Out of his 49 career wins in NASCARs Premier Series, Stewart has scored 22 of those in the summer time.

The 18-year veteran hung it up after the conclusion of the 2016 season in terms of a driver. However, Smoke is still a team owner for Stewart-Haas racing. That phrase that followed him as a driver may still be stalking him as a team-owner.

Kevin Harvick Wins at Sonoma

Sunday afternoon, the first Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race since the Summer started, Stewart-Haas driver Kevin Harvick won at Sonoma Raceway in impressive fashion. Harvick led 24 of the 110 laps in the Save Mart 350, and beat the second place finisher by almost eight seconds. That second place finisher was his teammate Clint Bowyer. In fact, Stewart-Haas Racing had three drivers finish in the Top-10 with Kurt Busch finishing seventh.

The NASCAR schedule heads to Daytona International Speedway next weekend and Stewart may find another one of his drivers in Victory Lane for the second consecutive week. Earlier this season, Kurt Busch won the biggest race of the year at the this very track, the Daytona 500. Kevin Harvick knows his way around the 2.5 mile oval as well as he has collected two wins, nine Top-5s, and 14 Top-10s.

A big summer may be in store for this racing organization. No matter what kind of slump Stewart is in, he can never be counted out, especially when the temperature rises. Stay tuned.
