Tonight marks the 15th anniversary of Ring of Honor pay-per-view taking place live from Las Vegas. Here are my thoughts on the overall card as well as my predictions.
ROH World Television Championship
Lio Rush vs. Marty Scurll
Lio Rush earned an ROH Television Title shot after he defeated Scurll in a two out of three falls proving ground match at a show in Columbus, Ohio on February 12th. It was still a big moment for Lio Rush to get a win over an international star such as Marty Scurll.
Rush has had a lot of rapid success ever since he won the ROH top prospect. As for as Marty Scurll is concerned, he’s had a strong run so far with the ROH World TV Title. He defended the title in a thrilling triple threat match against Dragon Lee and Will Ospreay at Final Battle.
Scrull had entertaining title matches against Juice Robinson and Sonjay Dutt. In addition to successfully retained his title against Donovan Dijak in a fantastic match on a recent episode of ROH TV. Even though Scurll could retain his TV Title, ROH should pull the trigger on Rush and make him the new ROH TV Champion.
Bully Ray The Briscoes Jay and Mark vs. War Machine Hanson and Ray Rowe and Davey Boy Smith Jr.
The Briscoes issued an open challenge, and that was initially answered by War Machine. However, with the debut of Bully Ray at Manhattan Mayhem VI, and the news that Davey Boy Smith Jr.
This should be an interesting match with all six participants are known for tag team wrestling. Anytime that fans get to witness Davey Boy Smith Jr. it’s always a pleasure because he has so much talent and he always delivered in his matches.
Now in the past, The Briscoes and War Machine have put on good matches. This will mark Bully Ray debut with ROH so he will look to put on a show. Bully Ray, along with The Briscoes, will get the win in this six-man tag team encounter.
Top contenders match
Jay Lethal vs. Bobby Fish
This is an awkward match because this match has no story behind it. The winner of this match will potentially receive a shot at the ROH World Title or the ROH World TV Title in the future. Regardless minus the story, both these wrestlers will deliver a fantastic match no doubt about. Due to the fact that Fish contract status is up in the air Lethal will walk out victorious.
Triple Threat Vegas Street Fight ROH World Tag Team Titles
The Young Bucks Matt and Nick Jackson vs. Roppongi Vice Beretta and Rocky Romero vs. ROH World Tag Team Champions Matt and Jeff Hardy
This triple threat match will steal the show between three high flying tag teams. The Broken Hardys won the ROH Tag Team Titles in an impromptu match at Manhattan Mayhem VI last weekend. This match will no doubt steal the show it will be complete chaos. There will be too many Superkicks to count in addition to bodies hitting the floor everywhere. Tables, ladders, and chairs will be used in some capacity. The Broken Hardys will retain their ROH Tag Team Titles.
ROH World six man tag team Championship
Dalton Castle and the Boys vs. The Kingdom, Matt Taven, Vinny Marseglia and TK O’Ryan
Dalton Castle and the Boys are an entertaining trio but they have not done anything to deserve this shot. My expectations for this match is extremely low. The Kingdom are talented enough to save this match from being a complete disaster. As for the result, The Kingdom will have to retain their titles.
ROH World Championship
Christopher Daniels vs. ROH World Champion Adam Cole
This main event is very compelling Christopher Daniels will battle Adam Cole for the honor in the company the ROH World Championship. Daniels earned this title opportunity after winning the Decade of Excellence Tournament on ROH TV, where he scored victories over Mark Briscoe, Chris Sabin, and Jay Briscoe. The company has done a great job at building this match.
It is very refreshing to see Daniels back in the title picture after he competed in the main event for the ROH World Title back in 2002. It is ironic that he is challenging for the ROH World Title on the company’s 15th Anniversary Show.
Cole and Daniels have met before in singles competition on two previous occasions. They were great matches and this time around it will not be any different. After Daniels earned this title opportunity an unexpected result. Frankie Kazarian decided to turn on his best friend and longtime tag team partner in order to join The Bullet Club on a recent episode of ROH TV.
This is a difficult match to predict because it is a toss up and either man can win. The only guarantee that they will be a lot of interference from The Bullet Club. Christopher Daniels will shock the world and he will be crowned the new ROH World Champion.
