Former MMA fighter Jason D. Reinhardt had some obstacles that he had to overcome in his career; In 2001 Reinhardt broke his neck and had to get extensive surgery on it. Doctors told him that he had a slim chance to get back in the octagon, but he proved them wrong. He overcame the neck injury and got back in the octagon in 2007. Reinhardt knew that he was going to prove everyone wrong and focused on getting himself back to the sport that he loved.
“The doctors told me that I was never going to return to this sport, but I know me. If I put my mind on something I will get it done. If you want something, you have to go out there and get it.” When you are going through things, you need to have a positive mindset, as well as positive support to help you out.”
Outside of his wonderful career as a fighter (21-3), he decided that he wanted to be a Martial Arts Instructor and give something back to the community. “I enjoy teaching martial arts. This is something that I have been doing for a long time. I am very passionate about helping others enjoy the sport, as well as motivating others in a positive light. When I motivate someone about a life decision, it makes me feel like I am fulfilling my purpose. I have been blessed with opportunities, so why not give back and help others.”
Reinhardt teaches Martial Arts for the youth and when he is not teaching them, he is motivating them to go out in the world and make their dreams come true.
Patience is one of the key factors that Reinhardt talks about when going for your dreams. “You have to understand that progression is the key. Sometimes there will be obstacles that will jump in front of you, but you have to keep moving forward.I had my wife, family, and the people who helped me out in my corner. I would like to thank Chris Fisher and his family for supporting me. Their support and what they did for me helped me a lot through my career, as well as personal.”
Taking risks is something that can be scary, but you have to stay committed to the process. You have to stay strong in your belief, goals, and mindset that things will work itself out. “I had to have a strong mindset. I mean to go through everything that I been through and defined the odds was simply amazing.I trained smart and never let anyone tell me that impossible was never possible.”
One of the obstacles that Reinhardt had to overcome was risks in the field. In MMA there could be a possibility of injuring yourself to the point that you no longer can fight, but with perfect technique, some injuries can be prevented. “Some injuries you can not stop, but with the right training, a lot of things can be prevented. UFC has never had someone who w as killed by an injury or anything.”
“When I was younger, I thought I could take whatever someone hit me with and hit back, but as you get older, you get wiser.”
Consistency has always been something that separates the good versus the greats; while fighting for his dream Reinhardt had to face reality and make sure that he survived financially. “Again you have to have a support system. I knew that I had a dream and was willing to do whatever it took to make it happen. Sometimes in life, you have to do things that you do not want to do in order to survive and make that dream happen. You can get to your dream with a positive mindset and people who support you.”
