Washington, DC— The Golden State Warriors and an off Stephen Curry ruined their former teammate Jordan Poole’s revenge game by defeating the Washington Wizards, 123-112.
The Wizards starting the first quarter playing good defense. The Warriors shot 33 percent from the field and had four turnovers.
In the first half, Curry had zero points, which includes going 0 of 6 from the three point line and yet the Warriors had a 60-58 lead going into halftime. With Curry’s off shooting half, the Wizards missed an opportunity to get a lead going into the second half. Wizards’ interim coach Brian Keefe explains why the Wizards weren’t able to take advantage of Curry’s off shooting in the first half.
“He’s going to make shots at some point. You know that’s going to happen. You’re never going to count on… you know I think he was 0 for 6 from three in the first. That’s not something you going to count on.” Coach Keefe added that “turnovers were the biggest issue.”
Curry finished the game with 18 points going 4 of 16 from the three point line. The Wizards had 12 turnovers in the first half and Warriors scored 15 points off their turnovers.
In the third quarter, Warriors forward and one half of the splash brothers Klay Thompson took over the quarter. He scored 13 points to put the game away for the Warriors. The Warriors ended up winning quarter 38-17. Thompson finished the game with 25 points off the bench.
His former teammate, Poole had another rough game for the Wizards. He went 5 of 17 from the field with six turnovers. The recently benched Poole has had a rough time in D.C.
“He’s come off the bench before: 2022 playoffs,” Thompson said. “He can lean in on that experience. Jordan Poole; I love Jordan. I know he has great, great seasons ahead of him.”
Thursday night, the Wizards take on Lebron James and the Los Angeles Lakers. Poole and the Wizards will have another shot to knock off another popular west coast team.
