The Carolina Panthers waived nose tackle Marquan McCall on Monday. The move is a little surprising as McCall was listed as the starter on the team’s first unofficial depth chart released a couple of weeks ago. Speaking with media shortly after the announcement, head coach Frank Reich said that the timing was so that McCall can make another roster.
The second-year player from Kentucky signed with the team as an undrafted free agent and played 16 games last season. After starting the first preseason game against the New York Jets, he played last Friday’s game with the reserves with Raequan Williams starting in the middle.
The move corresponds with the team agreeing to terms with veteran Troy Hill who is scheduled to arrive in Charlotte this afternoon. There are many more moves to come as the team makes cuts to get to the 53-man regular season roster by Tuesday’s deadline.
