Anthony Davis could not have asked for a better start, as the Wizards beat the Bucks in his debut.
Davis scored 34 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in his Wizards debut. Washington pulled away late to beat the Milwaukee Bucks 128-116 in Wednesday’s season opener at Capital One Arena.
Trae Young added 20 points and 13 assists as the Wizards overcame a cold start from deep. Washington missed 18 of its first 22 three point attempts. However, the Wizards trailed for much of the night before flipping the game in the second half. The Wizards shot 63 percent from the field after halftime and outscored Milwaukee 77-60 over the final two quarters.
The deciding stretch came early in the fourth quarter, when Washington ripped off a 21-4 run to take control.
The Wizards played without rookie AJ Dybantsa, who sat out with an ankle injury.
Milwaukee looked very different from a year ago. Taylor Jenkins coached his first game with the Bucks after his time in Memphis. Meanwhile, Tyler Herro led Milwaukee with 24 points. Jaime Jaquez Jr. also added 22. Both came to Milwaukee from Miami in the offseason trade that sent Giannis Antetokounmpo to the Heat.
After the Wizards beat the Bucks, Washington is back home Friday night against the Toronto Raptors.
