Impact of WR DeSean Jackson to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Another one’s loss can be someone else’s gain.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers are expected to sign wide receiver DeSean Jackson from the Washington Redskins. For the Redskins, that will be the second wide receiver lost to free agency. The other was Pierre Garcon.

Bucs’ QB Jameis Winston can smile even more knowing his team has added another deep threat alongside 2016 Pro Bowler Mike Evans. Both who have exceptional speed and can enhance their chances downfield.

Jackson has spent his last three years in Washington averaging 19 yards per catch. This past season was even better adding four 100-yard games with 24.45 yards per reception and two touchdowns in his last six games. Jackson is currently ranked fifth in 50-yard TDs with 21.

Finishing the season with 56 receptions for 1,005 yards will be a great impact for Tampa Bay especially with Evans. Evans also had a 1,000+ yard season including 12 touchdowns. With both wide receivers, Winston and the Buc’s will have no issue becoming threats in the NFC South.

They finished last season 9-7 and second in their division. Playoff hopes dwindled for them after losing two pivotal games late in the season, which tied them with the Detroit Lions. Records against other opponents gave Detroit the advantage and the playoff spot.

With just Evans and Adam Humphries, Winston was eighth in passing touchdowns and 16th in attempts. Adding Jackson to the mix can make the Bucs competitive next season. The only downfall that could take place is making the adjustments. A relationship between Winston and Jackson is well needed for everything to run its course. Understanding Jackson’s speed and knowing his capabilities are a must for the connection to be successful.

Jackson can be projected as a bonafide WR2 in this offense.
