Commanders Put Payne, Kinlaw and McNichols on Injured Reserve Before Rams Game

The Commanders beat the Eagles on Sunday night. However, the win came at a cost. On Tuesday, Washington put three players on the Commanders’ injured reserve list: Daron Payne, Javon Kinlaw, and Jeremy McNichols. As a result, all three will miss at least four games.

Payne is done for the year

Payne is the biggest loss. According to ESPN, he broke a bone in his left foot in practice on Friday, Oct. 30. The injury is a Jones fracture, and it ends his season. In fact, recovery could take up to four months.

Kinlaw also sat out the Eagles game. He has been dealing with a knee injury.

McNichols hurt against the Eagles

Meanwhile, McNichols got hurt during the win. He injured his foot in the third quarter and did not return. On Monday, Dan Quinn did not sound hopeful.

“He does have a midfoot injury, JP. I’m concerned it’s serious,” Quinn said.

That is another tough break for McNichols. After all, he had just come back from a quad injury that cost him the first five games.

Who steps up

On the defensive line, Tim Settle should take over at nose tackle. Shy Tuttle is also in the rotation. In addition, Jer’Zhan Newton is in his practice window. Still, he must be activated before he can play.

In the backfield, Rachaad White and Austin Ekeler are the active backs. Jacory Croskey-Merritt is still on injured reserve with a groin injury. If needed, Devin Neal and Craig Reynolds are on the practice squad.

Quinn pointed to that group on Monday. “We have some [backs] on the practice squad as well,” he said.

Next, the Commanders host the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, Nov. 8, on FOX.
