Interview: Germany and RB Leipzig star Timo Werner

RB Leipzig are presently fourth in the Bundesliga after earning 31 points from 17 league games. Die Bullen have scored 31 goals and conceded 17 this term under Ralph Rangnick.
RB Leipzig and Germany striker, Timo Werner, 22, who scored 21 goals in 45 appearances last season for RB Leipzig, has also scored nine goals in 23 games for Germany since his 2017 international debut for Die Mannschaft.
Meanwhile, RB Leipzig next face Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga on January 19 inside the Red Bull Arena. Eight days later, RB Leipzig then travel to the Merkur Spielarena to play Fortuna Dusseldorf in the league.
FOX Sports Radio 96.9 FM/1340 AM’s Dean Perretta briefly caught up with Germany and RB Leipzig star, Timo Werner, to discuss RB Leipzig’s 2018/2019 Bundesliga campaign, Germany’s disappointment at FIFA World Cup Russia 2018, as well as Werner’s personal goals and ambitions this term.

Dean Perretta: First and foremost Timo, how was your experience representing Germany at FIFA World Cup Russia 2018?

Timo Werner:It was my first big international tournament with the National Team. Of course, the World Cup was something really special for me. I have dreamed of it since I was a child. Unfortunately, we did not perform as well as we could have, we had high expectations. However, this is sports. There will always be some upsets but we have to learn from that, and we will.

Dean Perretta: What have you learned most playing under RB Leipzig manager Ralf Rangnick?

Timo Werner: To think about each detail. On the level that we play, the small things decide if you win or lose. Ralf Rangnick has always been a visionary man and he is eager to inhale all things that are out there in the cosmos of football. He thinks already today about what can make us better tomorrow.

Dean Perretta: From a player’s perspective, how would you describe the overall atmosphere of RB Leipzig’s Red Bull Arena on match day?

Timo Werner:The first time I stepped on the pitch at the Red Bull Arena I was fallen for the stadium and its atmosphere. Our fans always stand behind us no matter what happened. Even after tough losses, they support us after the game. Best example was the home defeat against Hoffenheim last season. We lost 2-5 and had a huge upset in respect to our run for the Champions League seats. However, our fans cheered us on and celebrated the team after the game.

Dean Perretta: What are your main ambitions and goals that you long to achieve in your professional career?

Timo Werner:I am very competitive. I want to win every game, even at training. Therefore, I always want to win the next game and score as many goals as possible. Of course, every footballer dreams of titles and trophies. But you don’t earn it by saying it all the time, you have to work very hard and strive for the best in order to reach your goals. That is why I only think of the here and now and how we can win the next game, training match or whatsoever. I am convinced, if you have that mindset you will be rewarded in the future, ideally with titles and honor.

Dean Perretta: Before we leave Timo, what are your personal main expectations and ambitions at RB Leipzig in the 2018-2019 season?

Timo Werner: I think I have just answered the question (laughs). We want to win as many games as possible, and hopefully we will win a lot. Then we see what we get for our efforts. But I am positive that we can compete for the international spots once again.
