SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, Va. — Richard Bland College will host the College of Southern Maryland in a non-region men’s basketball game on Friday night, November 10, at 7 p.m. in Statesman Hall. The preseason nationally-ranked No. 2 Statesmen are 3-0 this season, including 1-0 at home along with back-to-back road wins. The Hawks are 2-0 this season with both wins coming at a neutral site. Richard Bland defeated Southern Maryland 84-75 last season (Nov. 9) in La Plata, Maryland.
It’ll be Learner Appreciation Night in Statesman Hall in recognition of Richard Bland’s Learner Mentors. Admission is free to all Statesmen home games, while the contest can be heard locally on WHAP Radio, Fox Sports 1340 AM.

Scouting the Statesmen
No. 2 Richard Bland is 3-0 after an 81-80 road win at Northern Virginia Community College on Nov. 8. The Statesmen, who are an outstanding 107-31 (.775) over the past four-plus seasons, are coached by fifth-year head coach Chuck Moore, and assisted by third-year assistant coach Preston Beverly and first-year student assistant coach Brandon Henry.
Through three games, Richard Bland has been led in scoring by 6-4, 225-pound sophomore guard Robert Smith/Hampton, who is averaging 18.3 points, 7.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists. He is followed by local 6-7 sophomore forward Stanley Taylor/Petersburg, who is averaging a double-double of 13.7 points and 11.7 rebounds, along with 6-2 sophomore guard Tim Bing Jr./Suitland, Maryland (12.0 points, 5.7 rebounds) and 6-3 sophomore guard Tre’ Patterson/Richmond (10.0 points). Taylor provided the game-winning free throw with two-seconds remaining at NOVA. Richard Bland is averaging 86.3 points per game, while allowing 75.3 points to opponents for a scoring margin of +11.0.
Scouting the Hawks
Southern Maryland is 2-0 after an 84-67 win past Delaware Technical Community College on Nov. 4 in Frederick, Maryland, and is coached by 10th year head coach Alan Hoyt. The Hawks have been led in scoring by sophomores Juwan Smith (17.0), Sean Scott (16.0), Raymond McLeod (13.5) and Levon Randall (12.5). Southern Maryland averages 86.0 points, while allowing just 89.0 points for a scoring margin of +27.0.
Series History
Richard Bland and Southern Maryland are playing for only the third time in the sport of men’s basketball, and the Statesmen lead the series 2-0. Last season, 6-0 sophomore guard Ricky Hicks/Bronx, New York scored 16 points during the road win against the Hawks, as the top returning scorer in that game. In addition to last year’s contest, Richard Bland also defeated Southern Maryland 112-69 on Nov. 2, 2013, the program’s first game after reinstatement following the 20-year hiatus from competitive sports at the College.
