Orioles drop final game in Boston before heading to Texas

A great coach once said: “You are what your record says you are,” and to some degree, he was right. Much like a cake, there are layers to that quote. Stats and records tell most of the story, but not all of it.

The precarious case of the 2023 Orioles is underway, and there are many ways to splice what we’ve seen to date.

In the rubber match of this three-game set, we saw Cole Irvin and Tanner Houck take the mound for their respective teams. Much like the 1st two games of the series, we saw an Orioles starting pitcher struggle. The struggles left the bullpen to pitch a lengthy amount, Orioles pitching would end up surrendering 9 runs and 13 hits.

Amidst the struggles of the pitching staff, the Oriole offense battled and battled back to pull within one run in the 7th inning. Adley Rutschman looked human going 0-5 with three strikeouts.

The Red Sox pitching staff deserves its credit for not only neutralizing Rutschman but limiting the Oriole offense to just two walks. Despite not being able to walk or steal bases, the Orioles were able to pivot to the long ball and finish with five runs and 23 for the series.

Here are your lovely totals for the three game-set in Boston:

Oriole offense: 23 runs, 38 hits, 15 walks, and 10 SB

Oriole pitching: 27 runs in 25 IP, 36 hits, 9 walks, and 25 strikeouts.

The Baltimore Orioles finish out their road trip in Texas, where they will do battle with the Rangers in a 3 game-set.
