There were rumblings that the Carolina Panthers wanted to trade out of the No. 8 slot as the NFL Draft neared. Despite fielding calls leading up to their time on the clock, the Panthers stayed put and got their guy. That guy was Arizona wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan.
Last season with the Wildcats, McMillan was named First-Team All –Big 12 and a Finalist for the Biletnikoff Award after making 84 catches for 1,319 yards and eight touchdowns. He finished with 3,423-career receiving yards and finished third in program history with 26-career touchdown receptions. His 213 career receptions made him fourth in program history and his 1,319 receiving yards on the season were the fifth-most in a single season in program history. He averaged 109.9 yards per game and finished the season tied for eighth nationally in touchdown receptions (8).
McMillan made 10 receptions for a single-game program record 304 receiving yards against New Mexico to open his last season. His four touchdown grabs tied a program record and was the third-most in a single game in Big 12 history (since 1996). A big time playmaker, McMillan finished the season tied for seventh nationally in most receiving plays of 20-plus yards (20), a mark that was second in the Big 12.
The Panthers draft resumes tomorrow with Pick Nos. 57 and 74. General manager Dan Morgan says that defense remains a need and focus and disclosed that there are several defensive players on the team’s draft board.
