The Panthers on Friday announced that the team has agreed to terms with tight end Ian Thomas. According to Ian Rappaport, Thomas’ deal is $16.5M over three years. He gets $6.435M cash in year one and $8M fully guaranteed. Drafted by the Panthers in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft, Thomas was set to become a free agent in March.
Although his 18 receptions for 188 yards last season isn’t eye-popping, his blocking capabilities were essential in the run game. With the signing, the team now has four tight ends under contract: Thomas, Tommy Tremble, Stephen Sullivan, and Colin Thompson.
After locking down Thomas, linebacker Frankie Luvu, and long snapper J.J. Jansen, the Panthers now have 19 unrestricted free agents.
