JAMESTOWN, N.C. — Redshirt-freshman Tyler Lloyd/Manassas scored a career-high and game-high 20 points to lead No. 6 Richard Bland College to a 96-79 Region 10 men’s basketball road win at Guilford Technical (N.C.) Community College on Sunday afternoon in Jamestown, North Carolina. Sophomore Robert Smith/Hampton added a double-double with 16 points and a game-high 10 rebounds, while classmate Ricky Hicks/Bronx, New York also had a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 10 assists for the visiting and nationally-ranked Statesmen (9-2, 4-0 Region 10). Eric Peaks scored 15 points for the host Titans (4-6, 0-5 Region 10). Richard Bland will remain on the road at Fayetteville Technical (N.C.) Community College on Wednesday, December 13, at 7 p.m. in Fayetteville, North Carolina.
Richard Bland trailed 46-42 at halftime before outscoring Guilford Tech 54-33 during the second half of the 17-point road win to remain unbeaten in region games. Lloyd scored 12 first-half points, Smith scored 10 first-half points and freshman Kenny Southerland/Richmond scored eight first-half points. Sophomore Deon Joyner/North Charleston, South Carolina scored 10 second-half points, while Hicks and sophomore Tim Bing Jr./Suitland, Maryland each scored eight second-half points.
Lloyd led Richard Bland with his career-high and game-high 20 points, including a trio three-point field goals. Smith added his 16 points and game-high 10 rebounds for his second double-double this season. Hicks finished with his 10 points and game-high 10 assists for his second double-double, as well, adding four rebounds and four steals. Joyner and Southerland each contributed 10 points and eight rebounds, while Bing added eight points and three steals. Freshman Ryan Jones/Smithfield had four points, seven assists, and three steals.
Following the road game at Fayetteville Tech, Richard Bland will return home to host CCBC Catonsville (Md.) in non-region action on Friday night, Dec. 15, at 6 p.m. in Statesman Hall.
