SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, Va. — Richard Bland College sophomore men’s basketball standout guard Deandre Clark/Orange has been named the Athletics Department’s Athlete of the Week for the period November 16-22. He led the Statesmen to a 3-0 week, averaging 15.3 points with six three-point field goals. Clark scored a game-high 22 points, adding seven rebounds and five assists during 118-71 home win past Southside Virginia Community College on Nov. 18, had 10 points during a 78-72 home win against nationally-ranked NJCAA Division I Cape Fear (N.C.) Community College on Nov. 19 and scored 14 points during an 81-74 road win at Wake Technical (N.C.) Community College on Nov. 22. Through nine games, Clark is second in scoring for Richard Bland (7-2), ranked No. 14 in the NJCAA Division II Preseason Poll, with his 11.8 points per game.

Q: How does it feel to be named Richard Bland Athlete of the Week?
DC: It feels great, and means that I am doing something correct, even though there is always room for improvement.
Q: How did you get started in your sport and how long have you played?
DC: My parents put a ball in my hand and I never put it down … it’s been 14 years!
Q: What do you like most about your team?
DC: The way we come together through good and bad times, and everybody is a comedian on the team.
Q: Who is your funniest teammate/why?
DC: Harrison Mitchell. He is full of jokes and can make a person’s day with just a few words.
Q: Do you have any pregame rituals/superstitions?
DC: While I am warming up, I always talk to myself about what I expect out of myself for that game.
Q: What is your favorite place on campus/why?
DC: Of course the (Statesman Hall) gym, but also the café because I love to eat!
Q: What is your favorite class/professor/why?
DC: Spanish, because it’s interesting to learn a different language.
