The second half play by the Redskins forces a 0-6 record on the 49ers

Washington D.C. – The Washington Redskins cornerback Kendall Fuller closed the game with a big interception as time expired in the Redskins 26 to 24 win over the San Francisco 49ers.

Before the game, the Redskins running back Chris Thompson told his team he wanted to see “controlled aggression.” Thompson threw the first punch with a huge gain that set up great field position for a Kirk Cousins touchdown pass to Josh Doctson.

By the end of the first quarter, San Francisco was down 14-0. You can best believe that the 49ers came out with a plan of attack after the quarter. Kirk Cousins really provided a spark for the 49ers by throwing a pick to 49ers cornerback Rashard Robinson.

The play started the first drive of the season for CJ Beathard who put together a good collection of passes that led to good position for a Carlos Hyde touchdown to end the half, he had two touchdowns runs in the game. The Skins led 17-7.

Right out of the half, a crucial play was made by Jimmie Ward as the ball popped out of Redskins tight end Vernon Davis hands that were returned to the 1-yard line for Hyde’s second touchdown of the game.

Cousins ended his night with a 51-yard pass to Vernon Davis that successfully completed his drives with a touchdown run of his own to extend the lead out to 26-17 over the 49ers. The Redskins were faced with many good positions to score as several penalties were called on the 49ers. Touchdowns and good field position were a result of the 49ers penalties, they have the most penalties in the NFL.

With two minutes left in the quarter, CJ Beathard nailed 45-yard touchdown pass to Aldrick Robinson with the 49ers only down two. After a pretty good night for Beathard throwing 245 yards in his first action this season, he ended the game with a costly interception pass to Kevin Fuller that led to the Redskins victory over the 49ers. This makes the Redskins 3-2 on the season.

Cousins finished with 25 completions for 330 yards and two touchdowns. Carlos Thompson went for 138 yards in the matchup against the 49ers. While on the other side, CJ Beathard completed only 19 passes for 245 yards and a touchdown in his first look of action with the San Francisco 49ers.

“There were a lot of good decisions and plays where we converted on third down conversions and I was proud of the way our offense played today,” said Cousins.

Redskins head coach Jay Gruden stated he knew his team would be in a dogfight when the score was 17-17 after the Skins had the lead 17-0 over the 49ers.

“They have a lot of great players and I think this is their 5th game or more where they have lost by 3 points or so,” said Coach Gruden. “They are well coached they played hard but unfortunately we came out with the victory.”
