Shayne McGowan is a certified mental game coach that coaches players on the mental capability of handling crucial moments in a game. For an example; A basketball player has the ball in their hands with one second on the clock  and needs a bucket to win the game, what decisions will they make. Will they pass the ball to an open player, will they keep it themselves, or will they call timeout if they do not know what to do in that moment? These are the factors that psychologically effects the outcome of the game.
McGown has coached players to react in a logical format. “I mean you see these players all the time that have bad games or have made some some bad decisions in the game. My job is to make sure that they can get over the hump, relax, and breathe. Sometimes players need to relax and let the game come to them; As a certified mental game coach, I have to make sure that the players are mentally okay throughout the game.”
McGown has started up a company called Mental Edge Performance. “Mental Edge Performance is the foundation all athletic effort and accomplishments. If you want to be great, you have to be determined to work for it. This company wants to help out athletes in a positive manner.
“Motivation in sports is so important because you must be willing to work hard in the face of fatigue, boredom, pain, and the desire to do other things. Motivation will impact everything that influences your sports performance, physical conditioning, technical and tactical training, mental preparation, and general lifestyle including sleep, diet, school or work.”
” My focus is on the college level. I want to get these athletes ready for the next level. As people have seen, some college players do not have the equip mindset to deal with the NFL and fail early in their NFL career. It starts with preparation and having the guts to sit and talk with these athletes about the mentality that they need to have on a daily basis. Someone have to get to these guys and get them prepared.”
“It starts with being dedicated to your craft and making sure that you have the right tools to be successful in life.”
