A game full of collegiate senior all-stars got together with hopes of improving their individual draft stocks. A defensive contest manifested that needed the last two minutes to decide.
California QB Davis Webb led the South team in passing with 165 yards and one passing touchdown which helped the South All-Stars defeated the North All-Stars 16-15 on Saturday. The South offense as a whole totaled 409 yards, including 268 passing yards. Outside of Webb’s 165, the South also received 104 yards in the air from Tennessee QB Joshua Hobbs. The game started rather sluggish for both sides. The North All-Stars started with a 3-and-out on offense. On the very next drive, North Carolina State RB Matthew Dayes (seven carries, 66 yards, TD) fumbled for the South offense. Which led a 3-0 lead for the North after the team’s recovery and a field goal by Arizona State kicker Zane Gonzalez.
A 29-yard touchdown pass from Webb to Texas A&M WR Josh Reynolds (six catches, 96 yards, TD) in the second quarter gave the South team a 6-3 lead.
The two teams combined for six turnovers. Interestingly, five of those six turnovers were committed by the South team. One sequence in particular in the first quarter showed the South committing turnovers on three straight drives. A fourth quarter interception by Saint Francis safety Lorenzo Jerome gave the North team another opportunity to either tie the game or take the lead with over seven minutes remaining left in the game. East Carolina wide receiver Zay Jones (six catches, 68 yards, TD) Â hauled in a 6-yard touchdown pass from Pittsburgh QB Nathan Peterman to bring the North team to within one, 16-15. A two-point conversion attempt failed which kept the score as a one-point contest.
For the North team, Toledo RB Kareem Hunt led all rushers with 118 rushing yards. While Peterman passed for 153 yards and a touchdown.
