Award-winning journalist Kelsey Nicole Nelson spoke with special guest, Nodor Group CEO Tom Brown about the bet365 U.S. Darts Masters that returned to Madison Square Garden on the multi-award-winning FOX Sports Radio 96.9FM/1340AM hit show “Listen In With KNN.”
“I think people are very comfortable playing this sport,” said Brown.
Nelson and Brown bonded over their early memories of playing darts. Brown shared what draws him to the sport and how it can be a welcoming environment for anyone interested in beginning.
“Darts is an unbelievably inclusive sport. It doesn’t have an age limit, there’s no sort of gender profile, anybody can turn up and play,” said Brown.
Brown shares how the demographics of darts players have changed since the COVID-19 pandemic and how young people are embracing the sport worldwide.
“There’s a long history of innovation driving the sport. It’s really exciting now to see how big the sport is globally,” said Brown.
Brown offered advice to beginners interested in entering the sport and stressed that it isn’t necessary to begin with the most expensive equipment. To Brown, it’s more important to tailor you darts games to your preferences.
“You can really personalize your darts, and that’s one thing that’s really driving the category and the sport as well,” said Brown.
Brown shared that anyone interested in darts can find a dart academy near them, helping amateurs and professionals.
“One of the wonderful things about darts and one of the reasons I was drawn to this industry and this sport is that it’s a very mixed demographic. There’s almost an exact 50/50 split of men and women playing darts.
Nelson and Brown discussed the emerging online dart community and what to expect as it continues to grow.
“Isn’t it exciting when you get physical sports meeting digital technology. The sport will move more and more online,” said Brown.
Darts is having a moment, with medium-to-high growth across the board; the opportunity to enter the sport has never been better according to Brown.
