The Washington Commanders turned in one of their best games of the season on Sunday, beating the Las Vegas Raiders 41-24 on the road. Washington got steady play from Marcus Mariota, big gains in the run game, and a huge lift from special teams.
Mariota was sharp and calm. He completed 15 of 21 passes for 207 yards and a touchdown. He also ran for 40 yards and another score. His only slip was a lost fumble, but he gave the Commanders the steady hand they needed.
The ground attack set the tone. Jeremy McNichols broke free for a 60-yard run and finished with 78 yards and a touchdown on just four carries. Rookie Jacory Croskey-Merritt added 26 yards and a score, and Mariota chipped in his rushing touchdown. As a team, Washington piled up 201 rushing yards.
In the passing game, Terry McLaurin stayed reliable with three catches for 74 yards. Rookie Luke McCaffrey stepped up with three grabs for 56 yards and his first career touchdown.
Special teams came through in a big way. Jaylin Lane returned a punt 90 yards for a touchdown, swinging momentum to Washington. Kicker Matt Gay went 2-for-3 on field goals, hitting from 56 yards, and nailed all five extra points.
The defense didn’t grab any interceptions, but it did enough to slow the Raiders down. Washington got a key sack and stood tall in important spots to stop Las Vegas drives.
With offense, defense, and special teams all contributing, Washington showed how good it can be when everything clicks. The 41-24 win was a complete team effort and gives the Commanders momentum heading into next week.
