Kevin Gausman exits Spring Training game with an injury

The Baltimore Orioles got their first scare of Spring Training when Kevin Gausman was forced from today’s game against the Detroit Tigers.

Baltimore Orioles starter Kevin Gausman was forced to leave Monday’s Spring Training game against the Detroit Tigers following a collision behind home plate.

Gausman collide with Jeimer Candelario while backing up home plate on a Leonys Martin RBI single. Gausman was on the ground for several minutes, according to Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com. The right hander left the field with a towel over his head in the second inning.

The team has yet to make a formal announcement on the extent of the injury, releasing only this tweet so far.

Gausman was far from sharp even before the injury, allowing five runs on six hits and a walk in 1 1/3 innings of work prior to his exit.

Earlier today, we touched on how Gausman performs in 2018 will go a long way in determining how this team fares this season. Should last year’s Opening Day starter have to miss time, it would be a big blow to a rotation that is still searching for a fifth starter.

We will continue to update this story as more information becomes available.
