Listen In With KNN, the award-winning sports talk podcast and radio platform hosted by veteran broadcaster Kelsey Nicole Nelson, has been named a finalist in The Washington Informer’s inaugural Best of the DMV Awards.
The recognition places the show among the region’s top media voices, reflecting strong community support, months of public voting and Nelson’s continued impact across sports, culture and local storytelling.
Founded and executive-produced by Nelson, Listen In With KNN has grown into one of the DMV’s signature multimedia sports platforms.
The show blends in-depth interviews, breaking sports news, community features and cultural commentary across digital, radio and video formats.
Listen In With KNN is recognized for elevating underrepresented voices, spotlighting local athletes and creatives and amplifying stories at the intersection of sports, social impact and community leadership.
The Washington Informer announced the finalists after an impressive 1,700 nominations and more than 15,000 votes, underscoring the significance of each category.
Listen In With KNN earned its spot as one of the top three vote-getters in the Best Local Podcast category — while the KNN brand also appeared in other categories, including Best Community Journalist and Best Local News Organization, spotlighting Nelson’s wide-ranging influence across the DMV.
On the honor Nelson said, “As a DMV native who created Listen In With KNN to be a voice of the people, after I myself didn’t get a seat at the table, I vowed not only to represent the DMV sports community that I always say breeds the best talent, but to also ensure that the athletes and entertainers get their stories get told on a national platform. Listen In With KNN is the sports sound of the district and beyond.”
The Best of the DMV Awards celebrate the people, businesses, creators and organizations that make Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia a vibrant and innovative region.
Finalists were selected for their ability to mobilize supporters and inspire engagement throughout the nomination and voting period.
The winners will be revealed during a livestream announcement ceremony on Dec. 12, hosted by The Washington Informer and presented by Safeway on YouTube.
The show will feature special guests, live reactions and the announcement of the inaugural Best of the DMV class.
