Last night the NBA season got underway between two intriguing match-ups. However, I will provide my overall thoughts on who will become the MVP this year. There are a lot of candidates for this award such as James Harden, Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, Kawhi Leonard and Giannis Antetokounmpo to name a few. There is only one player that will run away with the award this year and it’s LeBron James.
Proving a point
It’s insane that after 14 years of being in the league, James still needs to prove a point that he is the best overall player in the game. James was questionable with an ankle injury going into last night game against the Boston Celtics. However, there was no doubt in my mind that James would play and he did not disappoint. The King put on a show in the season opener at home as he defended the land. He put up a mind-blowing stat line of 29 points, 16 rebounds and nine assists he messed around almost got a triple-double. The Cavaliers blew on 18 point lead but they escaped with a victory 102-99. It would not surprise me if LeBron James averages a triple-double all year-long. If James was able to win the MVP this year it will be his fifth time winning the award since 2013.
Revenge
The current state of the NBA has become extremely soft and everybody wants to play together now. Kyrie Irving and James built an incredible chemistry together even though they only played together for three years. Don’t get it twisted both James and Irving stated that they have no issues with each other. That being said James has heard all the jabs thrown by his former teammate. Therefore, he wants to prove that Irving made a mistake to request and trade to the Celtics.
Free Agency
This season will be extremely vital to James as he enters his final year with the Cleveland Cavaliers as a pending free agent at the end of the year. Therefore, depending on how much success the Cleveland Cavaliers achieve this year it will ultimately alter James decision for his upcoming future.
Conclusion
It will be a very compelling NBA season and all eyes will be on LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers. James will attempt to make another NBA finals appearance for the eighth straight year which is an unbelievable accomplishment. One thing is guaranteed James will look to make it a memorable year with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
