Joey Logano win the Toyota Owners 400 at Richmond
In Joey Logano’s 300th start, he worked his way through the field Sunday to capture the checkered flag in the Toyota Owners 400 at Richmond International Raceway. Logano started at the back of the field due to a transmission change post qualifying.
After pitting for tires on lap 378, Logano was able to pass Kyle Larson to take the lead and pull away from the field to win the race on a 19-lap green flag run. Second, Kensolowski, third, Hamlin, fourth, Stenhouse Jr, fifth, Harvick.
Stage 1 of the Toyota Owners 400 was dominated by pole sitter Matt Kenseth. Entering the race, Kenseth had led zero laps all season. He led all 100 laps of the first stage.
Brad Kensolowski was able to win stage 2 of the race by leading the final 37 laps. He took the lead away from Kenseth on lap 164. Kensolowski is a two-time winner this season.
The first race after Dale Earnhardt Jr announced he was retiring after the 2017 season, didn’t go so well. On lap 343 Jimmie Johnson pinned Earnhardt Jr up against the wall coming out of turn number two unaware that anyone was to his outside. On lap 356 Earnhardt Jr blew a tire bringing out a caution as he hit the wall. Earnhardt Jr finished in 30th.
