Morgan State’s Phillip Carr named MEAC Preseason Player of the Year, Tiwian Kendley named to 1st Team

Last season, Tiwian Kendley and Phillip Carr were juniors leading the Morgan State Bears in scoring and rebounding. They will start their season off given MEAC Honors as seniors, Carr was named the preseason player of the year and Kendley was named to 1st team All-MEAC on Thursday morning.

Both players are from the New York area, the only difference is Carr is from Brooklyn and Kendley is from Harlem. They both are junior college transfers as Carr came from Mohawk Valley Community College and Kendley came from Lamar Community College. The Morgan State Bears will look to capture that number 1 spot behind these guys.

North Carolina Central who controlled the MEAC last season finished with a record of 25-9 behind their graduating senior Patrick Cole. This year as the Bears come in at number 1 after finishing with a 14-16 record ending their season loosing to the University of Maryland Eastern Shore 67-66. Norfolk State, North Carolina Central, Hampton and Savannah State are all behind the Bears in the polls in that order being voted on by MEAC Coaches and Athletic Directors.

Along with the Bears stars Kendley and Carr on the 1st team MEAC, Norfolk State guard Zaynah Robinson, Bethune-Cookman guard Brandon Tabbs, and Howard guard Charles Williams are the other three players on that list as well. If Carr and Kendley can stay ahead of these guys leading their teams, they will be a force to be wrecking with in the MEAC this year including a great front court and back-court like Martez Cameron, David Syfax, Alex Ennis, Stanley Davis, Tyler Streeter and many of the other returners and newcomers.

The Bears first game will be November 10th against Binghamton University and they will take on the University of Maryland Eastern Shore January 3rd who took them down in their final game of last season 67-66. This year the Bears bring back 10 of their guys from last season starting at point guard with Martez Cameron, Kendley, Carr, David Syfax who started a few games last season and Alex Ennis controlling the middle of the paint.

Congratulations to senior Tiwian Kendley who was named to 1st team All-MEAC and a huge congrats to senior Phillip Carr who was named preseason player of the year for the Morgan State Bears. The last player to receive this honor in Morgan State history was Kevin Thompson who played for the Bears in 2010.
