One day before Training Camp begins, the Carolina Panthers announced a couple of roster moves. First, the team released veteran linebacker Josey Jewell as he continues to recover from a concussion suffered in the Panthers’ Week 16 win over the Arizona Cardinals. A team spokesperson relayed that Jewell wants to focus on his health and recovery “out of consideration for his teammates”. There is a possibility that he will return to the team if he fully recovers from the concussion.
Before coming to Carolina last season, Jewell had spent his whole career with the Denver Broncos, who drafted him in the fourth-round in 2018. Despite missing the last two games, he registered 97 tackles.
A few hours later, it was announced that nose tackle Bobby Brown III to the active/non-football injury list. Brown signed a three-year deal with the Panthers in the 2025 offseason after spending four seasons with the Los Angeles Rams. Brown joins tight end Tommy Tremble, wide receiver Dan Chisena, and punter Sam Martin who have all been ruled out as training camp starts. Brown has a hamstring issue but is not expected to miss much time. All four can be activated at any time during camp.
Carolina did make a roster addition by signing former Seattle Seahawks tight end Tyler Mabry. He has appeared in 10 games since 202o and has one catch – a 7-yard touchdown.
