Peacock Docuseries Reexamines the Legacy of Black Quarterbacks in the NFL

Peacock’s newest docuseries showcases the history of the Black quarterbacks of the NFL. The four-part series will premiere on Feb. 5 and will provide viewers with a comprehensive look at the barriers, breakthroughs, and players who helped shape the modern game.

Field Generals: History of the Black Quarterback is executive-produced by NBC Sports’ Maria Taylor, with Broadway Video, West Cedar Lane Productions, and Magic Lemonade Productions in collaboration with NFL Films. 

Each episode will feature exclusive interviews with current and former players who built the sport into what it is today, as they run down the history of the league and all the transformations they helped guide in the league. 

Some key figures featured in the series include: legendary Hall of Fame quarterback Warren Moon, former NFL quarterback and current Senior Advisor to the team president for the Washington Commanders Doug Williams, former NFL quarterbacks Randall Cunningham and Rodney Peete, former Pro Bowl quarterbacks Donovan McNabb and Michael Vick, and two-time NFL MVP quarterback Lamar Jackson. 

in addition to Michael Wilbon, Rich McKay, Joe Gibbs, Michael Eric Dyson, Jayne Kennedy, Bomani Jones, Michael Beschloss, Bob Costas, and more.

Through archival footage, personal accounts, and cultural analysis, the series will examine how these perceptions shaped draft decisions, coaching philosophies, and media narratives, while highlighting the resilience of players who challenged and ultimately changed the league’s status quo.

Episodes will come out every Thursday on Peacock for the next four weeks.
