Tonight, Ring of Honor’s War of the Worlds Tour stops off in NYC for PPV that features every title being defended. Here are my thoughts and predictions for this loaded card.
Frankie Kazarian vs. Hangman Page
This should be an interesting match between Kazarian against Hangman Page. Kazarian will be looking for revenge after Page screwed him out of an opportunity at the ROH TV title. A win for Paige would do wonders for his young and promising career in ROH.
Four Corners Survival Match
Kushida vs. Dalton Castle vs. Bobby Fish vs. Silas Young
All four talents will bring a unique perspective to this match. Kushida is clearly the best talent of all four of the participants. You can expect to see a lot of ground and submissions moves from Kushida and Bobby Fish. Silas Young will look to pick his spots to get an advantage with his physical style. Castle should walk out victorious as in the winner and this has a potential to steal the show.
Triple Threat Non-Title
IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champions War Machine vs. Los Ingoberbales de Japon (EVIL & Sanada) vs. Search and Destroy (Jonathan Gresham & Chris Sabin w/ Alex Shelley)
This match has three really interesting tag teams. War Machine has been tearing up NJPW as the IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champions. EVIL and Sanada don’t get talked about enough but they make a great tag team. It will be exciting to witness Jonathan Gresham make his pay-per-view debut with a tag team legend in Alex Shelley. EVIL and Sanada could pull off an upset. This could lead to a future shot at the tag titles.
Will Ospreay vs. Jay White
Will Ospreay made quite a name for himself in ROH during the Reach for the Sky tour he won the ROH TV. However, the next day he lost the title to Marty Scurll. Jay White is working on proving himself in ROH. The matchup showcases two excellent young wrestlers it is difficult to predict but a win would be a good look for White’s career.
Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Adam Cole
Adam Cole always wanted to take on Tanahashi in a dream match. This could be Cole’s last match in ROH as he becomes a free agent. It will be a fantastic match Tanahashi never disappoints, Cole could very well win this match to get a standing ovation.
ROH World Six Man Tag Team Championship Match
Chaos (Goto & Roppongi Vice) vs. Bully Ray & The Briscoes (c)
The Briscoes have been at the top of their game and the titles seemingly have breathed new life and importance into their careers right now. Bully Ray has really stepped up his game and impressed me with his recent work. Goto and Roppongi Vice Trent and Romero make a unique tag team but the Briscoes and Bully Ray will retain their titles.
ROH World Tag Team Championship Match
Los Ingobernables De Japon (Naito & BUSHI) vs The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Johnson) (c)
Los Ingobernables De Japon Naito and BUSHI will look to continue their momentum during this tour. This match will be insane and entertaining as whenever The Young Bucks are involved. It will be interesting to see the interaction but Naito and the Young Bucks which will no doubt be special. The Young Bucks will definitely retain their ROH Tag Team Championship they will not lose it anytime soon.
ROH World Television Championship
Matt Sydal vs. Marty Scurll (c)
On paper, this match has potential to steal the show because both Sydal and Scurll have completely different styles. This factor will keep the fans on the edge of their seats the entire match. Scurll will look to wear down Sydal with his submission game compared to Sydal will look to utilize his speed and quickness to his advantage. At the end of the Scurll will be too much for Sydal to handle he will fall victim to Scurll’s Crossface Chicken Wing. Scurll will retain his ROH TV Championship and he will have a long title run.
ROH World Championship
Jay Lethal vs. Cody vs. Christopher Daniels
This is the main event that everybody is looking forward to. Cody interrupted Daniels as Ring of Honor Wrestling took to the air, issuing a challenge for the War of the Worlds Pay Per View!
Jay Lethal earned the opportunity for the ROH World Title where he defeated Hangman Page, Jay White, and Silas Young. After some controversial some moments the main event was now changed to a triple threat match. Daniels had his moment as champion but tonight Cody will make historic and he will become a heavyweight champion in a major company for the first time in his career.
