The Baltimore Orioles stayed consistent in their losing ways, dropping game two of a three game set to the Atlanta Braves Saturday night in Baltimore.
Ryan Mountcastle got the Orioles on the board with a solo homerun in the 1st inning for his 21st homerun of the year. Dansby Swanson delivered a two run double with two outs in the 3rd inning, driving in Freddie Freeman and Jorge Soler to give the Braves a 2-1 lead. Joc Pederson would add a lead-off solo homerun in the top of the 4th to stretch the Braves lead to 3-1 for his 15th homerun on the season. In the bottom of the 4th inning Anthony Santander and Ramon Urias would go back-to-back with their own homeruns to tie the game up at three a piece.
Atlanta would answer in the top of the 5th inning with a solo homerun off the bat of Austin Riley, his 27th homerun of the year, to give the Braves a 4-3 lead. Atlanta would add the all important insurance run in the top of the 9th inning via a sacrifice fly courtesy of Jorge Soler to give the Braves a 5-3 lead. Anthony Santander would hit his 2nd homerun of the game and 12th on the season in the bottom of the 9th, but it wouldn’t be enough as Baltimore fell 5-4 to the Atlanta Braves for their 17th loss in a row.
Matt Harvey drops to 6-13 on the season with the loss and his era now stands at 6.27. Drew Smyly improves to 9-3 on the season with the win and Will Smith gets his 27th save after shutting the door on the Orioles in the 9th.
The franchise record losing streak is 21 set by the 1988 club.
The Orioles have a chance to salvage a game with John Means on the mound Sunday when they finish up the three game set with the Braves and more importantly end the lengthy losing streak.
