WVU survives in Austin; beats Texas by 2

On Saturday, Press Virginia went into Austin, Texas to face off against the University of Texas Longhorns. The Mountaineers struggled with turning the ball over in the first half, but came out and seemed to get that under control. The contest was a rollar coaster ride from the beginning, with 7 lead changes, that majority of which coming in the second half.

Mountaineer standouts

Jevon Carter led the team, with 15 points four rebounds and three assists. Carter stepped up his game and hit eight points in the last five minutes to give the Mountaineer’s a late, but much needed lead. Tarik Phillip helped the Mountaineers keep a close game in the spot when it seemed no one else could. Phillip had 14 points and five rebounds. Phillip was 70% from the field. Finally, Teyvon Myers helped contribute with 16 points and one rebound.

Texas Standouts

With the teams leading scorer out against the Mountaineers. Someone had to fill Tevin Mack’s shoes. Jarrett Allen accounted for 19 points in the contest. 85% from the field Allen played his part and replaced Mack as the leading scorer very well. With seven rebounds Allen also led the team in boards.

Looking forward

The Mountaineers will host the Oklahoma Sooners on Wednesday. Oklahoma coming into Morgantown with a 6-9 record and have not won a game in Big XII play. next week the Mountaineers should cruise past the Sooners.
