2016 College Football Awards Takeaways

 

The trophy case for the 2016 college football is now mostly filled.

The College Football Award show took place in Atlanta on Thursday night and is an annual ceremony that rewards some of the best players in the country. From the Bednarik Award (Defensive Player of the Year), Walter Camp Award (Player of the Year), John Mackey Award (Best Tight End), and various others. While Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson and Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson are two Heisman candidates who will be present at the Heisman presentation on Saturday night, both were also eyeing various offensive awards. Those two along with a number of elite college football players along with a number of notable faces around the sport this season were also present and on the ballot for numerous awards.

Jackson took home the Maxwell Award (Sportswriters Player of the Year) and Walter Camp Award (Player of the Year) while Watson walked away with the Davey O’Brien (Quarterback of the Year). Their awarding were just one piece to the story on the night and here is a complete list of the winners:

Lou Groza Award – Best Placekicker – Zane Gonzalez, Arizona State
Butkus Award – Best Linebacker – Reuben Foster, Alabama
Doak Walker Award – Best Running Back – D’Onta Foreman, Texas
John Mackey Award – Best Tight End – Jake Butt, Michigan
Outland Trophy – Best Interior Lineman – Cam Robinson, Alabama
Ray Guy Award – Best Punter – Mitch Wishnowsky, Utah
Bednarik Award – Defensive Player of the Year – Jonathan Allen, Alabama
Nagurski Trophy – Defensive Player of the Year – Jonathan Allen, Alabama
Disney Spirit Award – Most Inspirational – James Conner, RB, Pittsburgh
William V. Campbell Trophy – Academic Heisman – Zach Terrell, QB, Western Michigan
Wuerffel Trophy – Community Service – Trevor Knight, QB, Texas A&M
Broyles Award – Best Assistant Coach – Brent Venables, DC, Clemson
