Fans can join the Washington Mystics players on Facebook Live Sunday evening for a discussion powered by Geico. Sunday, April 26 starting at 7:30 p.m Mystics play-by-play announcer Meghan McPeak will host a live video chat with various players including Elena Delle Donne, Natasha Cloud, and Emma Meesseman.
The players will be live chatting as NBC Sports Washington re-airs Game 5 of the 2019 WNBA Finals at 8:00 p.m.
COVID-19 may have changed our lives as we know it, shutting down sports and forcing physical distancing, but it is not stopping the 2019 WNBA champions from finding creative ways to connect with fans. Just as importantly, it has not stopped them from raising funds towards a great cause.
Throughout the live video conversation, those in attendance will be able to donate to Monumental Sports & Entertainment’s “Feeding the Frontlines” fundraiser. “Feeding the Frontlines” provides meals to the heroes in the medical community working hard each day to help treat patients and stop the spread of COVID-19.
The Facebook Live chat will also allow fans an inside look with the players about the team’s journey to the 2019 championship. There will be opportunities to submit questions to players for a question and answer segment.
It was also announced earlier this month, that the Mystics Championship parade was going to be postponed again. The parade was originally postponed from the fall to the spring due to so many players leaving for international games right after the season.
The new date for the intended parade was May 12. However due to the outbreak of the coronavirus, the parade along with the start of the 2020 season have been postponed until further notice. Putting the health of everyone first, it is unknown when it will be safe to start the 2020 WNBA season and reschedule the Mystics’ Championship Parade.
So for now, although everyone is still social distancing, this is a great chance to virtually hang out with some of’ the players and relive the victorious 3-2 series over the Connecticut Sun to clinch the first franchise WNBA championship with them this Sunday at 7:30 p.m.
