With a devastating year with the New York Knicks and unaware of his future, Carmelo Anthony is now facing separation with his wife Lala Anthony.
“The current NBA season has been extremely stressful on the marriage for several months”, said a TMZ representative.
“They have been fighting for about a year,” says a source close to the couple. “The marriage has always been a rocky one, so this is no surprise.”
Reportedly Carmelo had relationship problems in the past, but have never addressed them publicly. They married in 2010 and reportedly had “issues” in 2013, exacerbated in part by trash talk during an NBA game against Kevin Garnett; La La was also accused of cheating on ‘Melo with rapper and reality star Maino in 2015.
Reportedly Carmelo and LaLa have been separated for some time. They live in separate areas in the city but is cordial with making sure that they are there for their son Kiyan.
Outside of his marriage, Carmelo and Phil Jackson had a meeting last week about his future with the Knicks and “Melo” thinks the Knicks will trade him in the off-season. “I think the direction with our team is that he’s a player that would be better off somewhere else and using his talent somewhere where he can win or chase that championship,” Jackson said.
The Cavs have been consistent with trying to get Carmelo with everything that is happening in New York. The Cavs could easily get what they want if the Knicks are willing to give “Melo” up. Next season Carmelo will make $26.24 million in and $27.9 million in 2018-19. There will be difficulties for the Knicks to make a deal due to salary cap restrictions.
